The Madison County (Alabama) district is scheduled to break ground later this month on a 1,200-student middle school in Hazel Green.

Al.com reports that the $53 milllion Hazel Green Middle School will be built on the existing Hazel Green High School campus and will have space for 1,200 seventh- and eighth-grade students.

“We’re busting at the seams in Hazel Green,” board member David Vess said. “It’s what it boils down to. And we’ve got to make some room to accommodate that growth.”

The architect is Nola VanPeursem, and the builder is Fite Building Company.

WHNT-TV reports that the Madison County school board also has approved a $7.5 million, 20,000-square-foot addition to Hazel Green High School, which is already under construction.
