The Montgomery Area (Pennsylvania) district has broken ground on a replacement for its aging junior/senior high school.

The Williamsport Sun Gazette reports that the new campus will be built on property that already is home to the district's athletic and community center.

Superintendent Daphne Bowers says the district bought the 57-acre property more than 55 years ago with the intent to construct a school building. The athletic facility was built, but the tract still has no school.

With the declining condition of the existing junior/senior high building, Bowers stressed that short term “bandages” were not cost effective for taxpayers.

“Quality school buildings facilitate quality education," she says.

The new building is expected to be ready for the 2027-28 school year.

The architect is Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates.
