Springfield (Missouri) district ready to build replacement middle school

The new Pipkin Middle School campus is about a quarter mile from the existing school.

The Springfield (Missouri) district will hold a groundbreaking ceremony next week to mark the beginning of construction of a new Pipkin Middle School.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that 114,750-square-foot building will serve 550 students when it opens in 2027.

The new 8.8-acre campus is a short walk--about a quarter mile--from the existing Pipkin. The school district bought the site from the General Council of the Assemblies of God for $8 million. Existing structures on the property have been demolished, the district says.

The Pipkin school started its life a century ago as a junior high. In 2019, despite its deteriorating conditions, Pipkin narrowly missed making the list of projects for a bond proposal. In 2023, voters approved a $220 million bond request that set aside $53 million for a new Pipkin.
