Agawam, Massachusetts, ready to break ground on new high school
The Town of Agawam, Massachusetts, is set to break ground next month on its new high school.
WWLP.com reports that the 230,000-square-foot, two-story building is estimated to cost $229.9 million.
Last summer, the Massachusetts School Building Authority approved construction plans for the new high school and allocated $96.8 million in state funding for the project.
Agawam Mayor Christopher Johnson said that the first phase of construction will begin on the left side of the existing school and should be finished by December 2026. The second phase of the project should be completed by December 2028.
“Our high school turns 70 years old this year," Johnson says. "It will be nice for students to have a nice, modern, state-of-the-art school, especially in the Science and Technology area."
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for June 3 at the existing high school.
The architect is Flansburgh Architects; the construction manager is Fontaine Bros / W.T. Rich; and the project manager is LeftField.
