High school in Destin, Florida, will add classroom building in January

Nov. 20, 2023
Destin High School says the new building will provide 23 additional classrooms and a modern science lab.

Destin High School, a charter school in Destin, Florida, is on target to move into its new three-story facility in January 2024 to start the second semester.

The Destin Log reports that the three-story, 26,000-square-foot building will be open when the students return in January after the winter holiday break.

The school says the new building will provide 23 additional classrooms and a state-of-the-art science lab. With the new building, the Destin campus will have over 45,000 square feet of space.

In anticipation of the new space, the district will be dismantling four portables that have been ion campus since last year.

Untill the new building is available, students who had been meeting in the portables will be sharing classroom space with other classes. Removing the portables now will enable the school to forgo some of the $4,000 a month it has been paying to lease the portable classrooms.

Destin High, a charter school, opened in 2021 with 300 students in grades nine through 11. It now has grades nine to 12, and a student enrollment of 556.
