Groundbreaking planned for Stafford County (Virginia) district's 6th high school

Sept. 18, 2023
The campus will have space for 2,100 students and is scheduled to open in 2026 in the southwest part of the county.

The Stafford County (Virginia) district plans to break ground next month on its sixth high school.

WUSA-TV reports that the Stafford County school board has awarded a $139.3 million contract to Howard Shockey & Sons to construct what for now is being called High School 6. The high school will be built between Route 17 and Truslow Road in the southwest quadrant of the county, an area which now has no public high schools.

“The construction of High School 6 is a significant step in addressing the growth crisis in Stafford County,” said Superintendent Thomas W. Taylor.

An official groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for Oct. 24.

The district says the school will have more than 290,000 square feet of space and accommodate up to 2,100 students in grades nine to 12.

"As Stafford County continues to grow in population, building this new high school will decrease overcrowding and also significantly improve quality of life and community development opportunities," the district's website says.

The district plans to open the school in 2026.

The architect is Grimm + Parker.
