The Wickliffe (Ohio) City School District has opened The Campus of Wickliffe, its new facility for students in preschool through 12th grade.

The News-Herald reports that campus consists of a blend of traditional classrooms, large group collaborative spaces, small group learning rooms, state-of-the-art technology, a two-story community hub, a 500-seat performing arts center and athletic facilities, including large gymnasiums and weight and fitness rooms.

"The response to the new campus was enthusiastic," says Superintendent Joseph Spiccia. "Members of the community remarked that the building reminds them of a college campus, that the technology is amazing and the building is open, bright and beautiful."

The district says the 204,000-square-foot building has a community hub, two gymnasiums, a 500-seat Performing Arts Center, and the Wickliffe Family Resource Center. The stadium on campus is outfitted with synthetic turf, and the project has been designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.

The school board also decided to bolster security on the campus by adding ballistic film to window surfaces.

"We had talked about ballistic film previously in our security meetings as part of the design of the building, but it became a more serious discussion in the last several months," Spiccia said. "We wanted to create a learning environment in which students are comfortable. 

Voters approved a$59 million bond proposal in 2019 to pay for the construction.

The architect is ThenDesign Architecture and the builder is Hammond Construction.
