Lafayette Parish (Louisiana) district opens replacement elementary school

The $36 million Prairie Elementary School was built to replace a facility that the district had outgrown.
Sept. 5, 2023

The Lafayette Parish (Louisiana) district has opened a new campus for Prairie Elementary School.

The Lafayette Daily Advertiser reports that the campus at 1101 Due du Belier in Lafayette replaces the Ambassador Caffery Parkway campus, which the school's population had outgrown, leading to a reliance on temporary, portable classrooms.

The $36 million project began in May 2022. The new building is about 101,000 square feet with 40 classrooms and open, flexible spaces designed to help students interact.

The school is one of three that the district has prioritized for rebuilding. The others are Lafayette High School and Carencro Bob Lilly Elementary School.
