The Litchville-Marion (N.D.) district has broken ground on a renovation and addition that will consolidate K-12 classes on one campus in Marion.
The Valley City Times-Record reports the $13 million project will renovate the existing high school and combine it with newly constructed elementary school space.
Crews will work first on the new addition, and high school students will continue to use existing classrooms in 2023-24. Renovations at the existing buildings will follow after the school year concludes. Construction is expected to be completed in August 2024.
“The plan is to tear down the portion [of the high school] that was built in 1921 and then remodel the portion that was built in ’61,” says Superintendent Tom Nitschke. “Then add on a couple of high school classrooms and a middle school and elementary wing.”
The district enrollment is now 135 students and the trend sees that increasing over the next two years, officials say.
Voters approved bond funding for the project in February.
Once the K-12 campus is completed, the district will close its elementary school in Litchville.
Kraus-Anderson, contractor for the construction, says the project encompasses renovation of 17,300 square feet of space in the existing high school as well as a new 37,000-square-foot addition that will include 11 new classrooms, a multipurpose room, locker rooms, common areas, kitchen, and daycare space. and
