Colorado district begins construction of preK-12 campus

The 60,000-square-foot building will replace aging facilities in the Walsh district.

The Walsh (Colo.) school district has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new preK-12 school facility in Walsh.

The soon-to-be-constructed 60,000-square-foot building aims to create a safe and engaging environment for students and staff. The new facility will include updated learning environments, a library, vocational/agricultural shops, competition and auxiliary gyms and a stage for presentations and large events.

The new campus will take the place of the district’s aging facilities, many of which have become costly to maintain.

“I am ecstatic to see this project come to life and serve our staff and students for years to come,” said Corey Weiss, principal of Walsh Junior and Senior High School and superintendent of Walsh Public Schools. “This has been a longtime vision of ours."

A nearly $34 million grant from the Colorado Department of Education BEST program is helping pay for the new facility.

The new facility will be constructed on the southern half of the existing junior/senior high school site, and the existing elementary and high school buildings will remain in place and operational during construction. Construction is expected to take about 16 months, with an anticipated completion date of Spring 2024.

The architect is Wold Architects and Engineers and the builder is GH Phipps Construction.
