The Academy of Northwest Florida will teach juniors and seniors basic nursing and medical skills.

The HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital in Fort Walton Beach and the Okaloosa County (Fla.) school district are partnering to establish a medical training program for high school juniors and seniors.

The Academy of Northwest Florida will operate out of a 6,375 square-foot space in the hospital. It will have two classrooms and two practical labs.

The Academy is overseen by the district's Career and Technical Education Department, the hospital says in a news release.

The program will begin its first semester this month at Okaloosa Technical College until construction at the hospital is complete.

Construction is expected to be completed by January 2023.
