School for children with learning disabilities in Los Angeles begins construction on new elementary school
Westmark School, a private school in Los Angeles for students with language-based disabilities, has begun construction of an elementary school.
The Westmark Lower School will be a 25,000-square-foot facility in the Encino section of the city. It will have 10 classrooms, an outdoor play area, theater space and a central courtyard, reports Business Wire.
The structure of the Westmark Lower School will be built with a cross-laminated timber system, in which lumber boards that are layered, glued and stacked into a crosswise pattern, to add strength, dimensional stability, and rigidity to the building.
The school is expected to be completed in August 2023.
The school is designed by NBBJ and the construction manager is Suffolk.
