The 36,540-square-foot building will incorporate eight labs, including one equipped for advanced research, to support Madeira School's STEAM curriculum.

Madeira School, a private girls high school in McLean, Va., is constructing a STEAM Academic Center.

The 36,540-square-foot building will have open and flexible spaces and will incorporate eight labs, including one equipped for advanced research, reports the Sun Gazette

The building will house classrooms for math and studios for digital arts, robotics, design, fabrication, painting, drawing, ceramics and photography. A flex room, opening onto a large terrace, will accommodate informal study, meetings and special events, including lectures, films and receptions.

School officials said constructing the facility will enable the program to be housed under one roof.

The project will incorporate energy-efficient materials throughout, including a rooftop solar-panel array.

The building is designed by Centerbrook Architects.

Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2023.
