The city of Jacksonville, Fla., has approved plans for a $16 million K-8 charter school.
The K-8 Charter School of Hope will be a 80,928-square-foot, two-story school about a half-mile from Jacksonville University, which is sponsoring the school.
The Jacksonville Daily Record reports that the university is partnering with Texas-based IDEA Public Schools on the school.
Initially, the campus will accommodate about 500 students in grades kindergarten to sixth grade. Plans call for the school to eventually serve students through 12th grade.
IDEA purchased the school site from the university in July for $3.27 million.
The IDEA charter network has about 120 schools in Texas, Louisiana and Florida.
The Jacksonville school is set to open fall 2022.
Park & Eleazer Construction LLC is the construction manager.
