Nov. 17, 2021
The new home will enable the Hynes-UNO charter school to expand from grades K-2 to K-8.

Hynes Charter Schools in planning to build a K-8 facility on the University of New Orleans campus.

The Hynes-UNO campus will be divided into two buildings, reports New Orleans City Business. The south building will house administrative offices, classrooms and media center spaces. The north building will have enrichment classrooms and commons areas.

The two structures will be connected by a covered pavilion.

Hynes-UNO opened in 2019 in a partnership with the University of New Orleans. It now serves students in kindergarten through second grade and is housed in a former Orleans Parish elementary school.

It is the third campus in New Orleans operated by Hynes Charter Schools.

The new facility will enable Hynes-UNO to expand to grades K-8. Over 900 students are expected to attend the new campus.

The curriculum at Hynes-UNO focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. It also offers a French immersion program.

The facility is expected to be completed in fall 2023.
