Jefferson County (Colo) district is replacing an elementary school in Wheat Ridge

The existing Prospect Valley Elementary was built in 1967.

The Jefferson County (Colo.) district is building a replacement elementary school in Wheat Ridge.

Prospect Valley Elementary will replace the existing campus, which was built in 1967, reports Mile High CRE

Funding for the $20 million school comes from a $567 million bond that voters approved in 2018.

The 60,000-square-foot school will accommodate about 500 students.

The two-story facility has been designed to have an efficient floor plan with its community spaces placed at the center of the building. Circular windows will be placed throughout the building along with bright pops of color. Its library/media center will showcase large glass walls and will serve as the entrance to the school.

Students will continue to attend the existing elementary until the new building is complete. The design provides space to construct a future classroom wing and possibly convert existing classrooms into a pre-k program.

Construction is scheduled for completion in 2022.

MOA Architecture designed the new elementary and GH Phipps is the builder.
