The facility will give varsity boys and girls baseball and softball teams their first-ever permanent field.

The Steubenville City (Ohio) school district is building a $2.5 million baseball and softball field complex.

The facility will provide the varsity boys and varsity girls teams their own fields for the first time, reports the Herald-Star

The complex will be adjacent to the practice fields and will be grouped with the other sporting fields, creating a centralized campus.

Plans for the seven-acre site include dugouts, a press box, restrooms, a concession stand, bleachers and parking, along with well-drained turf fields. School officials said the turf fields are going to lead to fewer postponements because they can be ready for game day within an hour of a big rain.

The school's teams have been using Franciscan University Steubenville’s Vaccaro Field for their home games. The varsity girls played home games at North End ball field as well as at the university.

Construction is expected to be complete in the spring.
