Butler University is building an esports park on its Indianapolis campus

The space will enable the university to host local and regional competitions.

Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind., will soon begin construction on an esports park. 

The 7,500-square-foot multiuse space, which will be housed in Butler’s Sunset Avenue parking garage, will be known as the ​​Butler Esports Park.

The building will feature high-performance gaming PCs and consoles, event and coworking spaces, a cafe, office areas for partner organizations, and a studio and production room, the university says in a news release. 

The space will enable the university to host local and regional competitions, such as state and conference finals, as well as partner-driven global competitions.

Butler has nine varsity athletes on its esports team, and hundreds of students on club teams. The university has created an esports minor with a curriculum that spans both the communications school and the business school, reports Inside Indiana Business.

Construction on the project will begin soon, and the esports park is expected to open in fall 2022.
