The Bartlesville (Okla.) district is constructing a $6.75 million vocational agriculture center for its agricultural education program.

The Bartlesville Agriculture Center will house a show arena, animal pens, labs, production fields and a greenhouse and will be located near the high school campus, reports The Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise

The facility is being built above the 100-year flood level; contractors will relocate dirt from the arena to achieve this.

An expanded parking lot will serve both the agriculture center and the area’s Pathfinder Parkway trail system entrance.

The construction of the center comes amid growing interest for the district's agriculture education program--149 students have enrolled in agriculture classes for the coming school year, up from just 80 students in the first year of the program.

Funding for the center will from a $28.5 million bond issue approved this week by voters.

Other bond projects include expanding offices, lobbies and front facades at Kane and Wilson elementary schools; replacing baseball practice facilities at Doenges Stadium; constructing a new softball and golf practice facility; replacing visitor seating and track surfaces at athletic facilities; and buying new vehicles, uniforms and instruments for the band and choir programs

In addition, $5 million will go toward technology upgrades.
