Plainedge High School in Massapequa, N.Y., is overhauling its cafeteria.
The $4 million cafeteria commons project will transform the existing space into a college-like setting, reports The New York Real Estate Journal.
The 7,000-square-foot space will have booth seating with built-in charging stations and tables that offer areas for small groups to gather, eat and study.
A counter seating area, dubbed Refuel Counter, enables students to refuel quickly and move on to other activities. A Quiet Café, situated apart from the main Commons, will enable students to eat a meal while studying in a focused and quiet manner.
Students and staff will also have access to an outdoor court.
The cafeteria was designed with an open concept feeling and to allow for supervision at all times.
Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2021.
The architect is Mark Design Studios.
