Ortona and Osceola elementary schools will close when Beachside Elementary opens in 2022.

The Volusia County (Fla.) district is building an elementary school in Daytona Beach that will take the place of two existing campuses.

Ortona Elementary in Daytona Beach and Osceola Elementary in Ormond Beach will be replaced by Beachside Elementary School in Daytona Beach.

The district says in a news release that Beachside Elementary, set to open in late 2022, will serve up to 765 students in 95,000 square feet of educational space.

It will have a separate buildings for art, music, and cafeteria, and an outdoor learning space with two playgrounds, courts, and a covered play area. The infrastructure will support upgraded technology and enhanced security.

The school is being built on Ortona's existing campus. While construction is carried out, students from Ortona have been moved to Osceola Elementary.

The design reflects the beach community of both schools; color features in yellows, oranges, and blues evoke the sunrise and the opportunity to learn something new each day.

The new facility is scheduled to open in late 2022.

BRPH is the architect and Ajax Construction is the construction manager.
