The Howard County (Md.) school district has acquired land for its 44th elementary school.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Turf Valley Elementary School will be built on a 10-acre site in western Ellicott City.
The elementary school is one of four facility projects in the works; the district is carrying out renovations at Hammond High School in Columbia, building a replacement Talbott Springs Elementary School in Columbia and building the district’s 13th high school in Jessup.
Plans for the Ellicott City elementary school are a result of the county's growing enrollment. In 2017, the county announced its intent to purchase property in the neighborhood.
As a result of the Blueprint for Maryland's Future, which provides funding for schools, the Howard County district will receive $132 million for projects like Turf Valley Elementary School, according to state Sen. Katie Fry Hester.
