Students in the Key Largo, Fla., area will have more opportunities to learn about their state's oceanic habitat with construction of a middle-school wing at Ocean Studies Charter School

The Ocean Studies Charter School focuses on Florida Keys science through hands-on learning and exploration out on the waters.

The Keys Weekly reports that the middle school wing is a two-story facility for students in grades six through eight. It is expected to be completed later this fall.

Outdoors, a courtyard with seating that will give students a place to eat and learn in the open air.

The first phase of construction provided space for students in kindergarten to fifth grade.

Another phase will add an outdoor marine science lab to the campus.  The school is also looking to add an outdoor playscape area in the future.

The school will be expanded to welcome sixth-grade students this school year; seventh and eighth graders will be able to attend the school in 2022-23.
