July 1, 2021
The project will modernize and add on to the Essex County Newark Tech building.

The Essex County (N.J.) Schools of Technology district has begun construction on a $31.7 million expansion project.

Tap Into West Essex reports that the existing Essex County Newark Tech building will be expanded with two new physics labs, a new suite for the school nurse, a second Technology Enhanced Active Learning (TEAL) Center and general classrooms.

The existing cafeteria kitchen and serving area, faculty lounge, cabinetry lab and office spaces will be converted to support the TEAL Center.

The addition will have a modern entry, new media center on the second floor and new cafeteria on the third floor. The larger media center and cafeteria will replace much smaller facilities.

The entire building will receive a new HVAC system, fire alarm system, upgraded electrical system and audio-visual and IT systems.

Construction  is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2022.

DiCara Rubino Architects is the architect and Epic Management is the builder.

The Essex County Vocational Technical School District is one of the state's largest vocational tech school systems. It serves about 2,200 students.
