The Yellowhab School is expected to open in September with 40 to 50 students in grades 3 to 5.

Singer Pharrell Williams plans to open a private school in Norfolk, Va., initially aimed at third- to fifth-graders from low-income families.

The school will be called Yellowhab and is expected to open in September.

The Virginia Mercury reports the school will provide tuition-free education for 40 to 50  students expected to attend in the first year. It will offer “highly personalized education that knits together transformative learning opportunities at schooll, at home, online and in the community,” according to a news release. Students will be picked through a lottery.

There will be an emphasis on STEAM curriculum--science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Williams, a native of Virginia Beach,  envisions expanding the program  to other locations.
