Replacement high school under construction in Sharon, Mass.

Sept. 9, 2020
The 240,000-square-foot Sharon High School is scheduled to open in 2022.

The Sharon (Mass.) school system has broken ground on a new 240,000-square-foot Sharon High School.

The new school, which is being built on the site of the existing school,  will have capacity for more than 1,200 students in grades nine to 12.

The school is expected to open in 2022.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) Board of Directors voted in 2019 to approve a $50 million grant to help pay for the project.

In documents submitted to the state agency, the district said that the existing school suffers from building envelope issues as well as deficiencies in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The district also says reported that the existing facility is overcrowded

"Sharon students will soon have a beautiful new space which will undoubtedly enhance and improve their ability to excel in the classroom," says MSBA Executive Director/Deputy CEO McCarthy.
