Charter school to build new campus in Hesperia, Calif.

LaVerne Elementary Preparatory Academy, a K-8 charter school, will break ground this week on a 48,905-square-foot campus.

LaVerne Elementary Preparatory Academy Charter School plans to break ground this week on its new education facility in Hesperia, Calif.

The Victorville Daily Press reports that the K-8 charter school, now on the campus of Ranchero Middle School in Hesperia, plan to construct 48,905 square feet of education space on a site a few miles away in Hesperia, near Holy Family Catholic Church.

The five-acre parcel is vacant with the exception of an older church building that was recently shuttered.

In August, the Planning Department approved the LaVerne Elementary project, which includes a campus designed to accommodate 450 students, multiple classrooms, administrative offices, multi-purpose room, sports court, outdoor amphitheater and kindergarten playground.

Last year, the school sought up to $20 million in tax-exempt revenue bonds in order to construct the new school campus.

The revenue bonds would be paid from revenues derived from the LaVerne Elementary Preparatory Academy Charter School Foundation from the project. City staff reported that there is no fiscal impact or obligation to the City as a result of the proposed financing.
