Georgia Southern University has opened a $33.6 million Interdisciplinary Academic Building on its Statesboro campus.

The three-story, 110,000-square-foot building provides flexible learning spaces for students with interactive classrooms and lab spaces for future research.

The university says the facility provides opportunities for faculty collaboration across disciplines and houses a variety of departments, including interior design, fashion merchandising and apparel design, history, foreign languages, writing and linguistics and international studies.

“I really am looking forward to the ideas and the experiments that will come from these partnerships, as well as the hands-on experience that our students will get,” says Georgia Southern President Shelley C. Nickel.

The facility is situated at the heart of the Statesboro campus along its “Pedestrium,” a pedestrian circulation route curving through the center of campus.

The architect is HOK, and the builders are Charles Perry Partners and Lavender & Associates.
