Brandeis University says new residence hall will be the greenest building on campus
Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., is scheduled this summer to open a residence hall that is being billed as the most sustainable building on campus.
The university says the $38 million project will replace the student housing that is now part of the Usen Castle complex. The 50,000-square-foot facility will have living space for 164 students.
One of the key sustainable elements of the residence hall include a geothermal system of 30 to 40 wells that will heat and cool and building.
In addition, a solar panel installation on the building roof will provide a portion of the energy to operate the hall.
Construction is expected to be completed in August 2018.
The architect is William Rawn Associates.
