New housing opens at South Dakota university

Sept. 12, 2017
Wolves Memorial Suites is first of three new residence halls planned for Northern State University in Aberdeen.

Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., has opened a new residence hall, the first of three planned student housing facilities.

The university says the 144-bed Wolves Memorial Suites , which opened in August, features a variety of suite-style options, including 14 two-bedroom suites, 10 one-bedroom suites and 17 two-bedroom semi-suites. It is the first all-new residence hall at Northern State since 1968.

Among its amenities: kitchen space for residents on all three floors; coin- and card-operated laundry facilities on every floor; study rooms, study coves and social gathering spaces throughout the building; and wireless internet access is located throughout the hall. Each room also is wired for high-speed internet.

Wolves Memorial is the first of three new residence halls to open. The other two are under construction and scheduled to be completed by July 2018.

Together, the three new halls will provide campus living space for almost 450 students. That means by fall 2018, it’s anticipated that more than half of the university's residence hall occupants will live in new facilities.
