Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pa., is preparing to open a new Student Fitness and Recreation Center.
The university says the 40,000-square-foot, $7 million facility will have two competition-sized basketball/volleyball courts; a fitness center that includes free weights, strength equipment, cardio equipment, two group exercise studio spaces, and a functional fitness room; locker rooms with a private single user shower and changing room; office suites for campus recreation staff, and an athletic wing that will be the eventual home to Men's and Women's Soccer and Women's Softball teams. The building also will have a patio space that will overlook the campus soccer field.
"The new recreation and fitness center will be a central place for our student body to engage in health and wellness activities and our indoor intramural sports," the university says.
It also will provide students with expanded and more modern fitness and recreational space. What has been the main student exercise facility, situated in Jefferson Center, is more than 50 years old.
Funding to construct the facility came from corporate and private donors and state appropriations. To over operating costs, students will pay a fee beginning in fall 2017—$125 per semester for full-time traditional undergraduate students and $63 per semester for part-time undergraduates.
