102,000-square-foot Integrated Sciences Center is scheduled to open in 2019.

Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., plans to break ground later this year on a $70 million science center.

The college says the Integrated Sciences Center will be a signature building that will house the biology and computer science departments and the environmental studies and science programs. It is a major component of the College’s $400 million capital campaign

It will also be home to a Center for STEM Education and the office of the College’s new sustainability director.

The 102,000-square-foot, five-story building will be constructed on land near the Acopian Engineering Center on the northwest corner of campus.

It will be designed to be one of the lowest-energy academic laboratories in the nation. Lafayette wants the project to meet or exceed LEED Gold standards for energy-efficient, environmentally friendly design and construction.

If everything goes according to schedule, the building should open in fall 2019.
