Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College has broken ground on a new student housing complex on its Miami, Okla., campus.

The college says new $4.5 million facility will provide nearly 100 students with suite-style housing to accommodate both single- and double-occupancy residents. Each room will feature a private restroom, easily accessible parking, and modern security features.

Northeastern Oklahoma's existing student housing reaches near capacity each year; nearly 800 students live on campus. The new suites will offer another option that meets evolving student desires.

The college estimates that 90 percent of its residence halls are outdated, which severely hampers student recruiting.

KODE-TV reports that project is part of almost $70 million in either new or renovated construction that the college has been carrying out since its campus sustained devastating damage in a 2007 flood.

Construction on the new housing is scheduled to be completed in time for the fall 2017 semester.

The architect is Architects in Partnership.
