Carroll College has broken ground for two new apartment buildings for students on its Helena, Mont., campus.
KTVH-TV reports that the additional housing has been made possible through an anonymous $5 million donation from a Carroll graduate. Officials says it’s the biggest gift from an individual in the school’s history.
Construction is already underway on the buildings’ foundations.
The college says each of the new buildings will have 18 apartments—12 three-bedroom apartments and 6 two-bedroom apartments. Third, fourth, and fifth-year students are eligible to live in the apartments.
The school intends to use the net revenue from the added housing fees to pay for scholarships.
The donor asked that the buildings be named to honor two popular former Carroll professors, John Downs and Al Murray. Because facilities at the college are named for saints, the buildings will be named St. John Vianney for Downs and St. Alfred the Great for Murray.
