School District 27J tn Colorado has broken ground in Thornton for the district's third high school.

The district says that the $89.5 million, 253,000-square-foot campus will alleviate crowding at its two existing high schools.

Both Prairie View HIgh School in Henderson and Brighton High School in Brighton have been forced to put students on split schedules so they can be accommodated in the limited space available.

The new school is scheduled to open for 2018-19 year.

Funding for the construction comes from a $248 million bond issue that voters approved in 2015.

The architect is DLR Group, and the builder is Saunders Construction.
