South Louisiana Community College is opening a new $9.2 million campus in St. Martinville this fall.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reports that the 36,000-square-foot facility is replacing a 1960s-era campus that now serves about 100 students.

Officials expect enrollment to rise because of the new facility, which has been designed to accommodate future additions. The new campus also consolidates offices and classrooms that have been spread out through several buildings.

The St. Martinville campus offers programs in business, general studies, patient care, practical nursing and welding.

The design firm is Architects Southwest.

The community college, which has several campuses in the Acadiana region of the state, also is expanding its Lafayette campus, where a $17.1 million, three-story health sciences center is being built. That facility is expected to open next year.
