The Olentangy (Ohio) district has begun construction of its fourth high school.
District officials held a groundbreaking ceremony this week at the site of the yet-to-be named high school in Berlin Township.
Funding for the $69.6 million project comes from a ballot request approved by voters in March 2016.
Olentangy, about 20 miles north of Columbus, needs a fourth high school to relieve crowding at the Olentangy, Liberty and Orange high schools. The new 303,000-square-foot high school will be similar in design to Orange High School, district leaders say.
Officials say Olentangy is the fastest-growing district in Ohio. Enrollment projections show that the three existing high schools — which are designed to hold a total of 4,800 students — will have 6,600 students by the 2018-2019 school year.
Construction of the new school is expected to be completed in time for the 2018-2019 school year.
The architect is Fanning/Howey Associates, and Gilbane Building Company is the construction manager.
