STEM-focused residence hall nears completion at University of Connecticut
The University of Connecticut in Storrs is nearing completion of a $105 million residence hall that will provide housing for students focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The 212,000-square-foot Next Generation Connecticut Hall will have capacity for 727 students in STEM-related studies. Construction is scheduled to be complete in July, and students are expected to move in later in the summer.
It will house eight Living & Learning Communities – EcoHouse, Engineering House, Eurotech House, Innovation House, STEM Honors, Public Health House, ScHOLA2RS House, and WiMSE (Women in Math, Science, & Engineering) House – as well as community gathering places and seminar rooms to encourage innovation across disciplines.
In addition, the university is renovating the dining facility adjacent to the new residence hall. The $23 million project will increase seating capacity to accommodate students from the new residence hall and improve self-service buffet areas.
