The project will consist of two connected residence halls on the northwest part of campus. University architect Lora Strigens says the co-ed residence halls will have about 375 beds each and be connected through the ground floor by dining and campus community space. The new housing is meant to accommodate freshman and sophomore undergraduate students.
Marquette hopes to break ground in late 2016 and open the residence halls in fall 2018. Once the new facilities are open, the university plans to raze McCormick Hall, which is more than 50 years old and houses 725 beds.
The university says the new residence halls will feature pod and suite-like settings. They will be designed to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
With the addition of the new residential development, Marquette will have nine open residence halls with space for about 3,700 undergraduate students.
