UNLV begins construction of academic building for hotel program

Hospitality Hall is expected to open next year in Las Vegas.
March 31, 2016

The University of Nevada Las Vegas has broken ground on a $59 million academic facility for its hotel college.

The building, dubbed Hospitality Hall, will provide 93,500 square feet of space for the Harrah College of Hotel Administration.

The hall will have experiential learning spaces, a rooftop event space, a golf center for the Professional Golfers' Association management program, and a student-run cafe.

Stowe Shoemaker, dean of the Harrah College, says the building “is designed to be accessible and collaborative, with open halls and common areas for students to interact with other students, educators, and industry.”

The new building will be situated to the just west of the Hotel College's current home in Frank and Estella Beam Hall.

The costs of construction have been split between state funding and private donors, many of which are gaming and hospitality companies with a prominent presence in Las Vegas.

The building is expected to open at the end of 2017.
