Landmark College in Putney, Vt., has opened a $9.6 million science and technology center, the first new academic facility on the campus since the school opened 30 years ago.

The Nicole Goodner MacFarlane Science, Technology & Innovation Center is a 28,500-square-foot building equipped with classrooms, meeting space, and labs designed for the sciences, the college says. Faculty from the Mathematics and Computer Science Department and the Natural Sciences Department set up their offices in the building starting in mid-August. The Landmark College Institute for Research and Training staff members are also situated in the new building.

A ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the building took place over the weekend.

The college was founded in 1985 and offers specialized programming for students with learning disabilities.

The building is named in honor of the Landmark College alumna who helped secure a $2 million gift from the Tambour Foundation for the facility. A capital campaign raised more than $7.2 million to pay for construction.

“The MacFarlane Center would not exist today if it were not for the generosity of our many supporters,” says Landmark President Peter Eden. “These donors understand the need for a center that will allow our bright students to gain skills, experiences and confidence, and for our educator-researchers to push forward our understanding of teaching and learning best practices.”
