The Frederick News-Post reports that the officials had a groundbreaking ceremony this week to mark the start of construction. The replacement school is being built on the site of the existing school and is scheduled to open in 2017.
The district says the new Frederick High will have 270,618 square feet and have capacity for 1,826 students. The building has been designed to meet at least LEED silver standards for environmentally friendly operations.
After construction is completed, the existing high school will be demolished, and athletic fields and other site amenities will be restored and reconstructed.
