Construction on the first Catholic high school in the Myrtle Beach, S.C., area is set to begin next month.

Myhorrynews.com reports that the Diocese of Charleston will break ground in September on the first phase of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic High School.

The 15,400-square-foot first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed in time for the school to welcome ninth-grade students in August 2016. Additional grade levels will be added in succeeding years to create a high school for grades nine to 12.

The campus will be situated in Myrtle Beach on a 50-acre site provided by the diocese.

Parishes in the diocese that will send students to the school have been raising funds to help pay for construction. The campaign had a goal of raising $5 million, and as of early August, more than $4.1 million had been pledged.

The start of construction comes nine years after the Diocese of Charleston decided that a Catholic high school was needed to serve students in Horry and Georgetown counties.
