New building envisioned as hub for technical college in South Carolina

Learning Resource Center is under construction at Midlands Technical College in Columbia

Midlands Technical College in Columbia, S.C., has begun construction of the Learning Resource Center on its Beltline Campus.

The school says the three-story building will become the focal point of the campus. It will have technology-rich classrooms and computer labs equipped for teleconferencing, an Academic Success Center with onsite tutoring, individual study rooms and a student commons area. Construction is expected to be completed in about two years.

The center will unite various campus functions to become a one-stop shop for students and faculty.

The ground floor will feature technology-rich classrooms and computer labs. The second level will contain the main entrance and lobby that opens to a new green space at the campus center. The third level will feature study rooms in a variety of sizes, as well as the Academic Success Center.

The project is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.
