The Washington Post reports that schools CEO Monica Goldson proposed the consolidation as a way tobolster students’ academic performance by combining resources.
Under the plan, Community-Based Classroom, known as CBC, would close. Tall Oaks High School would combine with another alternative school, Annapolis Road Academy. Green Valley Academy and Croom High School — the remaining alternative schools — would also consolidate, and Green Valley would be repurposed as a sixth to eighth grade program.
The schools serve at-risk students who struggle with traditional schools.
The district said the closures would save the district $2.4 million, reports Fox 5 DC.
