Farmington (Mich.) district proposes to close 3 schools
Three schools in the Farmington (Mich.) district would be closed as part of a reorganization plan proposed by the superintendent.
WXYZ-TV reports that the schools that would close are Harrison High School, Dunckel Middle School, and Highmeadow Common Campus, a K-4 school. All three campuses are in Farmington Hills.
The district says the closures would enable Farmington to operate its facilities more efficiently in the face of declining enrollment.
The recommendation presented to the school board Tuesday night states that current Harrison students would continue there in 2016-17 and 2017-18; the district plans to move Farmington Central High to the Harrison site in 2017-18.
The Dunckel Middle site would be repurposed as a K-8 campus with a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) focus, beginning in 2017-18.
The Highmeadow site would close at the end of 2016-17, and the site would be converted to house Farmington's early childhood program.
The school board is scheduled to vote on the closures at a March 15 meeting.
