John R. Good Elementary School, Irving, Texas, is modernizing its 1960s-style campus.

John R. Good Elementary School, part of the Irving (Texas) Independent School District, is modernizing its 1960s-style campus. The $3 million project had an aggressive 12-week construction schedule to enable the newly renovated school to reopen for the 2011-2012 school year.

The modernized campus features several important upgrades. A new kitchen supports the district’s new food-services concept, which is geared toward providing more nutritious meals to students. A revamping of the main entry configuration provides more secure access control. Rooftop heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment also have been replaced.

Other work includes cosmetic upgrades, such as the installation of new tile and carpet within all classrooms, offices and corridors; the replacement of all corridor ceiling tiles; installation of a new sports flooring system in the two gymnasiums that features a specialized rubber floor consistent with district standards; and the addition of a canopy to enhance the front entry.

The school’s site is being further upgraded with revised parking and bus loading facilities using additional property acquired by the district, as well as new landscaping throughout the campus.

Architect for the project is KAI Texas (Dallas).
