Senate committee approves education bill

A proposal that would let parents open tax-free $2,000 savings accounts for their children's K-12 education expenses — including private-school tuition — will go before the full Senate. The legislative package approved by the Senate Finance Committee includes an amendment expanding an existing program that allows contributions of $500 for college expenses.
