At least two potentially violent incidents in schools have been thwarted today, on the second anniversary of the shooting deaths at Columbine High School in Jefferson County, Colo.

A high school in Palm Beach County was closed for the day after a package with wires and batteries was found in a locker this morning. Authorities quickly evacuated Wellington High School and closed off the road in front. Students were sent home for the day.

A 14-year-old student at a disciplinary school in Monroe, La., drew a gun on a principal while waiting to be checked with a metal detector, but the weapon did not fire, allowing the principal to escape as the youth chased him and squeezed off several shots. No one was injured, although at least four shots were fired.
