Fourteen Dayton public schools would close during the next three years under the superintendent's reorganization plan. Dayton closed three schools last year. Enrollment has fallen from nearly 32,000 in 1981 to about 20,000 today. Administrators project enrollment will continue to plummet during the next three years to about 13,000 in 2004.
